This was a fun experiment the kids did in science with air pressure.  Will was very good at getting it to work right.  You had to blow with a straw over another straw to get the water in the lower straw to rise and come out.

We had a great first month!

Tim Hawkins!!

We have been Tim Hawkins fans for a number of years.  If you do not know who he is go to you tube and search his name.  He is a very funny comedian.  Julie and Camie enjoyed wathing his dvds with their California friends.

When we heard he would be in Huntsville shortly after we moved here, we were so excited.  The girls wanted to go so badly, they paid for their own tickets!
Loading up!
 Silly girls!

 Always goofy
Eagerly waiting the show to start.  We had quite a blast and laughed so hard!!

Who knew?!

So what should I talk about for my first post ev-ah? I suppose the one thing that has stood out in my mind since beginning the transition to civilian life is this: "It takes money to make money." Also, it seems that I actually do like to "dress up," ha ha!

So an explanation is in order.

For the past 20 years I haven't had to concern myself with "fancy" clothes except for church, and even our churches have been fairly casual. Yet, even my so-called Sunday Best wouldn't cut it for entering the job market, so an upgrade was in order.

It began before our move to Alabama. I was thinking about waiting until we got here to buy a suit for interviews, but a sale kinda dropped into our laps while still in Cali so we went for it. We got a great deal on the suit, but later, when you add in things like tailoring and shoes, belt, shirt, tie, socks... well,, even a "deal" can be shocking!

The good news is that I got a nice suit, it looks good and, to my surprise, it's really comfortable (see previous post)!
The "bad" news is, I only wore it twice! LOL. Once for an interview (I got the job ^_^ ), and again for a job fair. Heck, even our new church is pretty casual!

Speaking of getting the job, after getting more details after being hired, it turns out that day-to-day, it's "business casual." If you know me, then you know that I don't know the meaning of those words! So, off the department stores to acquire what I think of as my new "uniform."

Four pairs of pants, nine shirts, three ties, two packs o' socks, a belt and matching shoes seemed enough to bolster my wardrobe to acceptable standards... but wow! I'm still in sticker shock! Heck, most of what I got was on sale or clearance of some kind!

The aftermath however seems to be a comfortable, attractive collection of ensembles that I'll actually enjoy wearing ^_^

Go figure.

Interview/Job Fair

On Tuesday, Aug. 21st Russ had an interview with a company called Jacobs.  I think he looks good in a suit! I had to do a blog post to show off the suit!

Thursday he had the opportunity to go to a job fair for Veterans. He got several leads there.  Please keep praying God will have a job for him soon!

AWANAs

The kids have been enjoying AWANAs at PVBC for the past 3 years, they were asking to continue. The church we have decided to attend does not have AWANAs so we found one close to our house that did offer it.
Their program started on Sunday August 19th.  The church has a very nice program and all the leaders were so sweet to the kids.  They served pizza, gave them a school box with supplies, and they even supply all the AWANA supplies free!  What a tremendous blessing.

Game time was a big hit.  They had all the kids remove their shoes and race to see who get theirs on and back to start.  I was afraid kids would bonk heads! They didn't though.
Emily waiting her turn for dodge ball.
 William listening to instructions.
Logan had just hit his sister with the ball.

I did not get any pictures of Camrynn.  Her group did games outside.  She happily met a group of girls and was chatting happily right from the start.

Space Museum

We were blessed to have our friends take us to the Space Museum with their free passes.

We did rock climbing, walked around exhibits, rode some simulators, walked around the outdoor rockets, and even did some training in the training center.  It was excited to be where they hold space camp!

We had fun playing with hairstyles before we left.
Emily had to have sunglasses to complete her look.

 My three beauties!
The required stand in front of the van shot!
 Best buds!
 Up, up, and away!
She made it over half way.
 Go Camie!
 learning to fly

This was a Zero gravity ride that shot you up really fast and then brought you up and down several times.  It was fun to 'float' at the top.
The kiddie version.  Emily cried when she couldn't go on the big one. :( She has quite the adventurous spirit.
 Space shuttle here we come.
 Cams building a rocket.

Logan really enjoyed designing modules for the international space station.  This interactive display was very cool.
 We enjoyed these activity table.

Thank you Carpenters!!
